Hey there! I’m Caitlin, owner of Happy Tines – a design and lettering studio based in my home in Apex, North Carolina. I’m a North Carolina native, a wife, a toddler mama, a lover of bright colors and a chocolate chip cookie fanatic. I’m on a simple mission to make people feel happy and special through my whimsical style of happy paper goods.

After graduating with a degree in Graphic Design from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC, I worked as a corporate graphic designer and soon craved a creative outlet outside of my cubicle. I signed myself up for an in-person calligraphy class taught by an elderly military man whose calligraphy was incredibly beautiful and traditional. I knew I loved calligraphy, but did not love the precision of the traditional copperplate style, so when the class ended, I started practicing and developing my own style of modern calligraphy which I now use today in my work.

After designing invitations for my own wedding and for my friends’ weddings in 2015, my work snowballed from there and Happy Tines was established in 2016. I now design wedding invitations and happy paper goods with a combination of my calligraphy, hand-lettering and illustrations.

When I’m not designing and creating, you can find me spending time with my hubby, Ben, and our two-year old son, Wesley, in our home just outside of Raleigh. We love to explore museums and breweries with our toddler (no shame!), cheer on the Ohio State Buckeyes during football season (Ben is an Ohio State alum and I went to an all-women college with no football team…) and run in new races so we can add to our medal collection. Fun fact: Ben and I ran the Walt Disney World Marathon together two years in a row while we dated. Maybe another marathon is in my future??

I’m excited you are here! Thank you so much for stopping by my happy space on the internet. I love to keep in touch, so please say hello! :)

What’s with the name?

“Happy” comes from my desire to make others feel happy and special through my whimsical style of happy paper goods.

“Tines” (not to be mistaken for “times”) comes from the two tines that come together at the tip of a calligraphy nib.
